The unofficial beginning of summer has come and gone, and while it's not officially straw-hat season, at least the snow is in the rearview mirror and we can anticipate smooth sailing for the next few months. If the time for spring cleaning has passed you by, at least use the arrival of summer as an excuse for a little updating and refurbishing. I spent the weekend putting summer slipcovers on the sofas (as my mother and grandmother used to do) and changing over all my bedding to summer colors and lightweight bedscapes.
Here are a few really classic bedroom ensembles from Nautica to jazz up your bedroom — and what's even better (having just checked), they are on sale on the company's Web site, to boot. (They are also available at Bed Bath & Beyond.)
"Lawndale" is the name of the ensemble that conjures up nautical summer themes. It introduces a new take on color-blocking by featuring not squares or rectangles of color in the style of Mondrian, but rather bold, broad swaths of color in beautifully engineered stripes in two colorways: coral and navy. These "Lawndale" ensembles pay homage to Nautica’s timeless heritage with a modern take on stripes and traditional nautical style. The stripes are awning-inspired and the colors are yarn-dyed, so the tones are saturated and rich. The duvets reverse to a classic, Breton-inspired stripe. The sheeting for this silhouette mixes ikat-printed sheets and cable-knit decorative pillows, allowing you to mix and match color, texture, and fabrication. Shams feature pintuck detailing and there is even a maritime-inspired graphic signal flag decorative throw pillow that completes the maritime theme.
Transform your bedroom into a Zen-like retreat with the soft and inviting "Margate" bedding, in coordinated tones of steel and cove gray. The duvet features decorative quilting in a solid, muted slate, and reverses to a cool white pin-dot. The harmonizing accessories highlight color-blocking, stripes, and additional cable-knits. The correlated chevron-printed sheets, in an ikat-style zig-zag, add another element of exciting pattern to the mix-and-match look that relies on the elegant style of harmonizing disparate elements with a discerning eye.
